Urgent help needed

Just put together my new PC, and although it all seems to work fine, I have tried running 3DMark2001SE to see how it runs, and it just bins it (in different places) during the test. I have tried 3DMark03, and it does the same.
I tried installing a game to see if the problem was jus with 3DMark, and it runs for about a minute then bins it. No error messages, just drops backs to windows.
System is MSI 875PNEO mobo, 2.6Ghz P4, 1 gb PC2100 RAM, Asus 9600XT graphics, Windows XP. All drivers and windows up to date (possibly with the exception of the motherboard, but they can't be that old, only just bought the bloody thing!)
Nothing appears to be getting hot, and the system seems stable apart from this.
Any ideas?
