Question

Hi all,

I've fitted a firewire PCI card and have a couple of questions.

Firstly, how can I check that the card is present and functioning correctly? I can't see it in the Device manager, and I got no message saying 'New Hardware Found' or anything like that. Is that expected?

And, I have a Cannon DV canera connected to the firewire port. I was hoping that there would be some Windows 2000 utility that would automatically detect it and offer to record the output, but no such luck.

Can anyone recommend such a utility, or other suitable software I could download or purchase?

Thanks in advance.

UB

Firewire card should appear as IEEE 1394 adaptor. You'll need to manually install drivers on W2K. Once installed, if you plug-in the Canon DV, it should detect it automatically.

I use Pinnacle Studio to capture/edit my video clips.

Direct from the manufacturer of your Firewire card.

Under IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers I have a compliant device listed. That must be it. It also says it is functioning properly. It appears to have a driver too - 1394bus.sys. Is that the one?

Since W2K doesn't have any capture software, it'll be hard to check if it's actually working. Looks like it's installed the card fine, but you'll need some software to test with your camera.

Check the Pinnacle site for a demo version of Studio 8.

Cheers,

will do. Appantly I need drivers for the Camera. Once installed it should show that everything is working. I'll check out the Pinnicle software too.

Thanks.
