Hello

It depends what you do with your internet connection. The benefits are a fast connection, always on 24 hours a day and it doesn't tie up your phone line.

So if you use the internet a lot then it's worth it and as the post above says you can't live without it once you have it.

As for ISPs, Zen, Nildram and PlusNet are all good.

Steve.

Definately definately recommend cable (Blueyonder) if you can get it in your area.

If you are interested in PlusNet I will refer you (and thank you for the discount I get)!

I have been with them for two years and not looked back, good service, helpful staff and they show their statuses all the time!

I'd look to choose from one of:

Titan, Eclipse, Zen, Nildram or Pipex.

Who's doing the best & cheapest 1Mbit service out of the recommended ISP's ?

Looking for someone who can do a quick changeover from my current 512Kb ISP.

Bit unfashionable to say so, but I've been using NTL Cable for well over a year and the actual service has been great. Only one minor outage that lasted a couple of days and a dodgy modem that was replaced within 24 hours. That said, don't try calling 'customer' service - complete joke.

I've got the 600K service and it normally performs well beyond that.

Of the other services mentioned, I've heard very good things about Blueyonder / Nildram and Pipex - so take your choice.

When looking at prices, be sure to compare like-with-like. Nildram for instance offer a range of connection speeds with varying upload speeds. Price wise, NTL 600K is about £25 a month incl a modem. 1Meg service is £35 a month. Expect to pay similar amounts from other providers too.

I'd recommend Nildram too, much better customer service and speed than Btopenworld who I used to be with.

Changed to Pipex ADSL last year. Will never go back to a 56k modem!
