I'm after some advice!

I really want to create a webpage, but having absolutely NO experience of how to go about making one - I'd like some help!

Am I right in thinking that all I need to do is register a domain name with someone (say with www.dot.tk), and then find someone to host it for me (e.g. www.fortunecity.com?

How do I go about diverting people from my domain, to my host?

Will it be possible for me to introduce forum software (e.g phpbb) to it later on?

So many questions! Basically, can someone give me (or link to) a beginner(ish) guide on how to make a half decent website?!!

Many thanks in advance...

K.

Check out the hosting tab on 1&1 but I'm sure everyone on here has their own fav.

They do a variety of packages as well as domains all under one roof. The 8.99 package looks like it has all the things you're asking about. Keep following the more info button if you want to read what you get etc.

Usual disclaimer: I just use them etc

As it's a "first" site, I'm really looking to go down the "free" route for now if I can, just until I get the hang of it...

How much web space would forum software like phpbb take up?

It is very unlikely that you will find a free host which allows you to run phpbb as you will need SQL database support.

1 & 1 are starting up in the USA soon, and are offering their professional package free for 3 years to pre-registrants, you would still need to buy a domain name.
