I can't comment on UpdateExpert as I don't know it, but having read a bit about it on the web it seems that our System Compliance Profiler would partialy remove the need for it.

I have never heard of System Compliance Profiler. Does the System Compliance Profiler role out the latest security updates for windows, office, etc ? Could you explain what it does?
Just I have been looking at using UpdateExpert for doing this, but am open to other software that will do it. The only annoying thing I find with UpdateExpert is that you have to manual download the ms updates, and then point to them.

In answer to Christian's particular question (I think), there is of course Microsoft's own (free) Software Update Services Server (SUS), which checks for patches/sec bul etc, d'loads and distributes to clients.
But Jack's lot seem to have a few more bits 'n pieces all incorporated in a single location

tbh dont think we have any automated patching system at our place
, just use SMS for software updates and epo for AV.
Will pass this over to the AV expert tomorrow for him to have a ganders, hes always playing with his precious epo server

Here's a pretty good summary from the extensive .pdf file available on the above link.
The System Compliance Profiler software scans remote computers to determine whether they comply with policies that you set up. Policies consist of rules, each of which tells the software to look for a specific file, registry key, patch, or service on
scanned computers. Computers that meet all of your rule criteria are in compliance with your policies. Computers that do not meet rule criteria have rule violations.
You can use System Compliance Profiler to create graphical and tabular reports that show which network computers do and do not comply with company policies.
