help wi' free Spybot please

I've got the free Spybot prog installed, but once I click on the icon to get it going I can't do anything with it, ie get no control panel come up to change settings etc. Have tried installing / re-installing but still no luck !! Any help greatfully recieved. Or is there an equivalent better freeware prog out there. For info, also have Ad-blocker free prog installed, Spybot was working now, no joy trying to change settings at all.
