After buying an X-box 6 months ago, Im recently getting back into them. The machine is Brilliant and the Games are excellent far better than the PS2. I am still a bit of a X-box Amatuer, compared to some of you X-box Gladiators. I keep hearing about this Chip mod you can buy.

I apologize for lack of X-box knowledge and I cant be a***d searching the net. It's easier to ask the X-box kings on here!!!!! What exactly is it? I know it can Improves yr machine but how?
Graphics, speed, memory?. I am thinking of going along the windy path of X-box live. Will the chip be advantagous to me?
If so where can I get it, how much?

Cheers Albert.

It doesn't modify the X-Box in that way Albert

It basically allows unsigned code to be run on the X-Box, which means that programs written by people other than Microsoft can be run. Such programs are Media Players, OS replacements, homebrew games, online gaming tunnels etc.

It also has the added bonus of being able to FTP files to and from your X-Box and an ability to use recordable DVD and CD media.

It means you can play online without the need for X-Box Live and also turn your X-Box into a home entertainment centre playing MP3's, divx movies, streaming radio and much more

Have a browse over at www.xbox-scene.com as it has loads of information and will be able to answer any questions you may have.

If you want to use X-Box live though, you will get banned for using a modchip, but they can be switched off for that purpose

DJ Dunk,

Hello there again, Cheers for the info mate.I will look into the web site. I said I was getting back into it slowly, better late than never, hey!!!!.

I bought the YPBPR VGA BOX it works a treat. The picture is not quite as sharp as I thought it might be, But it does the job.

Once again Cheers.

"It means you can play online without the need for X-Box Live"

I thought you could do that without chipping, am I mistaken?

You're right Jack, you should be able to use XBConnect unchipped. But more advanced (read: preferred) ones like boXlink will need a chipped machine.

Chipping my X-Box (which I have had for about a year or so now) was probably one of the best things that I did to it!

It has made the console so much more versatile! and it only cost me £40.

Ian

P.S. I still blame Dunk for putting teh idea into my head

Thats what mine is, Xecutor 2.3 Lite+, it was a bit fiddly to line up on the main board, but once it was lined up its working fine!
