Nice easy one this for you MP3 gurus.
What is the easiest way to convert CD tracks to MP3 on a PC Windows XP platform?

I use CDex. Current release (1.51) seems to be pretty stable and the results are good. It is free, so give it a try. Not the most user friendly of programs if you are new to CD ripping, but it is worth getting to know it. You can also use the latest version of Windows Media Player (v9 I think) which should already be on your XP box, assuming that you've got it patched and updated.

Apple iTunes
Free, and very good. Check out the iTunes Music Store. You can only hear samples as yet, but the full store is coming to UK soon.

Can someone tell me which CD ripper is best of identifying / labelling the individual tracks (via online CDDB)
I used one ripper which couldn't identify the tracks (it was Now56) and it really disappointed me. So which is the best ripper for identifying stuff ?

It's not the ripper per say, it's which CDDB database it uses to obtain the track info that determines how good it is.
I use CDex and occasionally come across a CD that's not listed on the default CDDB (freedb.freedb.org). The good thing with CDex is you can manually add your own CDDB site.

Ozzy, yes thats what I was trying to say - its down to which CDDB the ripper supports, and the ability to add your own is what I've been looking for - I'll give CDEX a whirl.

If you are just ripping then iTunes is a bit of an overkill. I use it as it's probably the best thing on the mac for doing what it does, plus it's free. I just wish it supported CDTEXT, both when reading and burning cd's, this is the reason why I burn my CD's with Toast, rather than iTunes.
