I'm thinking of buying a new PC and have seen this
Dell Dimension 8300
Intel 4...3.0GHZ
512MB DDR(400MHZ)Ram
120Gig Hard Drive
17" Analogue Flat Panel Monitor
128MB nVida Geforce 4 FX5200 TV out
for the sum of £999 inc vat and deliv
Also a option to upgrade the flat screen to 18" for £176.00
Opinions would be helpful on the above and what is a flat screen like for playing games as the above is advertised as for gamers.
Thanks in advance
Mog
Or can anyone recommend another PC.

Do they give you the response time of the TFT? Usually a value in miliseconds.
As a side note, IMO, it's a very weak graphics card given the CPU and RAM. I'd be looking for something with a Radeon 9600XT or GeForce FX 5700 to keep up with that CPU.

We have brought a couple of machines from Savastore they might be of some help as you can build you own spec machine, we have had no problems with the machines but Pilot error is another matter Parents and modern technology

What refresh times should I be looking for on a TFT and are they really ok for games.
I thought that Dell had a good name.
Thanks

Some TFT panels are rated around 25ms and sometimes show a ghosting effect on fast moving games / DVDs. The theory is a response rate of around 16ms is best.
Some people like Dell, some people don't. One of the guys I work with ordered himself a notebook from them and they've screwed his order up big style. That said, other's have nothing but praise.

Just bought a MEDION from PC world. 3.06 ghz, Pentium 4 etc etc. £999 with 17 inch TFT. Beware though we ended up getting a better tft as they have no 17s left for the deal. Fantastic spec.

checkout the PC from Carrera Octan 2800SE in www.pcpro.co.uk. i think it is darn good value at £699, £821 including VAT!
