Scooby, where did you get that info from? I hope you are right, I want to change mine at home but I'm reluctant to spend on a dual 2 when I may be able to get a dual 2.6 for the same money.
I'd heard that February 3rd was a significant date, and they gave us a Safari update and I've been digging around everywhere for clues as to a release date for new models but nobody can be certain.

There are a few rebate/trade-in programs Apple are running at the minute which finish around the end of March. This would suggest a clearing of inventorary before new hardware is launched soon after.
At WWDC, Steve said they'd be at 3GHz by the end of this year. Given that the PowerPC970 has now matured at 2GHz and has recently moved to a 0.09 process, everything is ready for speed bumps in the very near future.
Cheers!

I've heard from a source who works closely with Apple/Emagic (nobody on this BBS btw ) - he/she reviews this kit for music applications. There are some VERY good deals on G5 systems ATM, which are in readiness for the reduction.
Basically, hold on

Cool, I shall hold my horses. Although my shiny new DP 1.8 G5 arrived this morning at work, and it's kind of making my desire for one at home a bit worse

I do hope you got that from James @ MacWarehouse. I know Adrian Rose was due to order a machine which I think was for you.
Apple are in tomorrow at MacWarehouse so I'll see what I can find out. The announcment for mid Jan was postposed. We've also got a feeling the powerbook will be tweaked first as there is so little stock at present. The stock normally dries up before they make an announcment.

There are no price reductions at present BTW. If you have seen kit cheaper than the big names like MacWarehouse, Jigsaw and Computer Warehouse etc make sure you know why. Some resellers make you pay for delivery if anything goes wrong or simply won't help you. I've had quite a few calls from disgruntled customers who thought they'd save a few quid and ended up costing them a fortune due to shoddy service from some of these box shifters with no backup.
Do be careful where you get the kit from. When the average margin on this stuff is 1-2% prices should be about the same.
I'll post up as soon as I know more which should be tomorrow
Oh and its very likely the OS9 bootable G4 will go and the end of this quarter too.

No worries SB. New hardware is usually announced on Tuesdays and if Allan receives any info, he'll probably be under embargo not to release it (although he can hint )
Markus, agreed! Death to the greybeards (and Quark!)
Cheers,
Alex
