Cool Windows 2003 Server and OSX

We are having a few issues with the setup and were just wondering whether anyone out there has any clues
Setup: Windows 2003 as Server OS setup with Appletalk services, SFM, shares with Mac permissions etc.All uses have full read and write permissions and are all member of the Admin group under the domain.
OSX users log in via OS9 chooser control panel as OSX network is too flaky to use.
Problem: Once logged in and mac volume mounted, they do not have write access and can only read.

We have tried just about everything so if anyone out there has some bright ideas please help

I'm sure AngryNorth, Class-A or Allen B will be along soon....

What's the setting in "security" tab for the macintosh share?

If the user has 'full control' then they should be able to access to volume.

When you say OS X users log in via OS 9 chooser, do you mean to tell me you;re getting them to connect via chooser in classic? not a wise idea really, the networking in classic is not what it should be.

I'd always go for the 'Connect to Server' option from within OS X. Plus, there is the fact that you can type in smb://ipaddress of server/ and mount via SMB, if you want to that is.

The mounter in OS X isn't quite there yet either, although things do work fine from the command line. Resource forks seem to have a problem over smb, at least on the three versions of Samba (current and two prior, Debian) I tried.

yeah, agreed about res forks and SMB, they don't handle it.

No need to tell me about the flakey mounting in OS X, our product automounts file server vols and most of the failures are due to the os, grrrr.

Swiss,

Ta for the name check, I obviously spend too much time on Mac threads!

From my limited knowledge of the current state of the union, here are some starter URLs...

DAVE if you want to share files and printers FROM the Mac to the Domain.

ADmit Mac with a handy ADmit Mac vs. Panther page. Choose if you want to access Windows Domains or AD forests.

MacWindows to help you keep your sanity and find out answers to common issues

Despite the crowing from Apple about Panther's ability to "play nice" some things are still a bitch!

You also might have the following issues to consider:
- Only MSIE can authenticate against MS ISA (proxy server) reliably.
- Outlook 2001 is Mac OS Classic only
- Entourage and Mail.app support Exchange, but only if you turn on IMAP and Web Access
- Address Book won't sync with Exchange

All good fun!

Apple-K smb://<ip>/<share> is your only friend

Oooh and almost forgot, you'll love the .Trashes hehehe (evil laugh)

Good luck,
Alex

Ok, I usually don't mention this, as it's not exactly polite to do so, but... if you're wanting macintosh administrator software, for example, desktop lockdown, mounting of home folders, print auditing, software distribution, then do a little search for MacAdministrator, as it can do all that, plus it'll sit on a mac acessible share on your windows server.

Would that be MacAdministrator?

Looks like a good product, especially for those who don't have access to Mac OS X Server.
