Post Windows Media Player

Can media player play AC3-Dobly 5.1 sound. I'm using windows media player to watch movies on the TV, I'm also plugging the headphone out, in to my 5.1 system, i'm not getting 5.1, just stereo. Is there a patch or will I have to use something else to play movies.

Cheers,

Leigh

The TV signal will only have stereo sound so Media Player only sends signal to the fronts, it does the same with stereo audio files. Shame it doesn't at least send the same signal to rear left and rear right, would be interested to know if there's a patch to make it do so. Sorry my reply doesn't help much!

Ben,

Think I found way of doing it, i'm going to try it tomorrow. I've just ordered at creative labs usb sound thingy, which has SPDIF out, this will conect to my 5.1, with more connections than just the standard soundcard (i'm using a notebook). I'm going to use Powerdvd to play .avi as it has SPDIF out support. I'm sure media player can't support SPDIF, so I think I've craked it, I have however thought this before!!

Windows Media Player 9 does support 5.1 surround, but you will need a sound card capable of outputting this, plenty of cheap ones about now
