Dell - free gifts :)
A friend of mine ordered a couple of PC's plus wireless router, cards, and printer from Dell.
All arrived accept the cards as there was a big delay on them.
He wasn't happy so said that he didn't want the router anymore and to have it returned, along with the printer which wouldn't fit under the desk.
Eventually Dell credited back the £85 for the router and £50 odd quid for the printer but said that it would cost them too much to arrange collection of the items so he could keep them
Apparantely the guy on the phone said that Dell have a minimum return value.
Anything under that they dont request back!!!!!
This seems mad - anyone else had experience of Dell?
I think I might order a nice wireless router or something myself, around the 80quid mark myself and then decide I dont want it and see what happens

Yes it does appear normal with quite a few suppliers
we ordered 25 Cat5E 3m cables, instead of 5m, when they arrived we phoned em up, and they said oh, keep em we will credit you, but it would cost too much for us to take them back
Nice one

Does seem mad. If the customer is at fault for ordering the wrong goods, then they should pay for returning them. If it's Dell's fault, then it would make financial sense to let the customer keep the goods if it costs more to get them back.
Certainly good PR if word gets around

Surely though if you have bought the wrong item and want it changed its the responsibility of the buyer to pay the postage and packaging to send the items back recorded delivery
I can understand if Dell have made a **** up but not if its the customers fault.

It probably costs them more in admin and labour to check and restock than the item(s) cost DELL to purchase.
Not sure they would use the same rules if you just changed your mind.

We have had sh*tloads of gear turn up at work that we never ordered and never got charged for.
To date some of the foc stuff we have had is:
Dell keyboard and monitor rack mount system (including TFT and keyboard)
HP/Compaq NX7010
Free HP Plotter
Misc bits n pieces (ie ram, hard drives etc)
We view it as a perk of the job
