sony vaio lappy in bits...
Hi all,
I have a sony laptop, 650mhz, dvd rom, modem etc etc.
I inherited it from my boss on my last contract and its in a bag with the power adaptor.
thing is thus, it was bought because the point where the power lead plugs into the lappy is damaged, meaning it cannot be charged up for use at the moment.
I dont want it anymore as I have a better desktop coming soon.
Are lappy's that are damaged worth anything (as it owes me some cash)?
would anyone be interested in it on here?
I can prove legitimacy (its not hooky).
advice please.
Andy

What vaio model is it?
As im after a new screen for my Hp omnibook 6000 (if anyones got one.lol) and I know some of the sony Vaio screens fit.
If your not really going to split it like that, id guess it would either be a new motherboard cos of the power socket(my guess) or you could go buy a docking station as it wouldnt use the lappy one.
thats of course if it does do that like mine?
Otherwise, stick it on e-bay, im sure you would get a good price for it

cheers for that,
will look at the docking station option for definate, as for splitting, would rather just offload it for as much over £75 as possible, misnomer on the title as well, its not in bits at all, its all in one piece just wont get any power to it,
will get the model number tonight and report back.

Hello
I might be interested. Just to confirm: The laptop at the moment cannot be used AT ALL because the power connection socket is broken?
Please get back with the model number.
Steve.

righty-ho
details straight from the phone to my Dad (where the lappy is being stored).
Sony Vaio PCG-FX103
mobile pentium 650MHz
Speedstep
64mb RAM
10Gb HDD
Dvd-Rom drive
removable floppy drive
13.3" TFT screen (1024*768)
3Kg. in weight
link 1394 port (??)
Ethernet ready
built in modem (assuming 56k)
audio/video convergence.
thats what it says on the tin.
to confirm, cannot power up at all due to the broken female connector (on the computer), spoke to a couple of engineers and they offered the following:
either replace the motherboard completely, or hardwire the power lead to the computer and introduce a connector along that lead.
I cant be arsed with doing either to be honest, new desk top from work negates my mobile requirements.
hope this helps, I'll check my PM's this afternoon.
Andy (not going to Bolney Im afraid).
