Office 97 CD Key?
Before anyone asks, this is totally legit
I need to reinstall O97 on a machine - I have the serial number but need the corresponding CD Key to ensure the new install ends up with the same serial as the original.
Is the Office 97 CD key stored in the registry as well as the serial number?
Failing that, can I install using a different CD key and then edit the registry to the correct serial number.

Sorted I've just found a nifty bit of freeware that pulls the Windows and Office key info from the registry.

Yes, It's a well-known thing with some Microsoft applications. NT4 Server was the same. Start with 040, then use 123456....etc and it accepted the license.
The important bit is that you can prove you have purchased a valid license.
