I took the laptop out the back garden and got disconnected???

I read the documents that came with it all (in the light and and with a less over excited head on...)....

PCMCIA card is 108mbps and the router is 54mbps.....

so a max of 54....that'll do nicely....

Anyone any ideas on the range of these thingS????

Was a bit dissapointed to loose the connection in tha garden, while giving a freind a tour via messenger/webcam!!! SAD or WHAT!?!?!?!

Try changing the channel from 5 to 1 or 12 or at least a few steps difference, as you may be getting interference.

Also make sure you leave the reception display on the laptop to see what channel is working best.

I have a wireless network at work and it travels through at least a dozen concrete walls. But when we first installed it it kept dropping recption and losing connection. A quick change of channel and I now never go below 85% reception.

install the wireless router as high as possible. that is the ideal way of positionning wireless access points.

I noticed there were a number of channels available...... it was preset to 11.... thought it would be best to leave it alone...... will try them all....

Question... do i need to reset the router channel, then the pcmcia card channel?? or is is just the case that I can change channel on laptop and it updates the roouter??

Yep done that......... it does fluctuate a bit....... was going down to 2.2mbps and upto 8mbps.... when I was in the garden (25m from router)

someone has metioned in work that there is likely to be a firmware upgrade.... for the router to allow 108mbps

what's the likely hood of this being correct and is it safe a safe thing to do?? would it be successful etc etc....

or just buy the other wireless router/modem to match the 108mbps PCMCIA card that I have....

........... would i see any realistic benefits from upgrading to the 108mbps??

( i only just got the 54mbps yesterday and already wanting more!!!! is thereNO end to this!! he he

cheers

Phil

You only need to change the channel on the router.

Thanks, you got it for a very good price!

Looks like there *may* be an optional external antenna for it, check out
http://www.netgear.co.uk/html/prod_wireless_antenna.htm the site doesn't seem to show compatability, but an external antenna + 5m cable will increase the range.

cheers.............

forgive me for being thick, but would it go something like this???!?!?!

1. remove current antenna from router
2. attach antenna cable
3. route this to somewhere like the attic (for eample)
4. attach the ANT2405 (ceiling and wall mount omni antenna)
5. Wireless catchment area GREATLY increased....... (less likely hood of disconnection while in garden??)

coooll

just wondering on how much extra I'd get..... (distance wise.....)

Please correct me if i'm being a doughnut!!!

Am I correct in pressuming (coz I NEVER '*** U ME') that at point 4, I could attach which ever is suitable??

ta

Phil

Some useful info for your router: http://kbserver.netgear.com/products...tic/DG834G.asp

Antenna installation guide: ftp://downloads.netgear.com/files/an...tall_guide.pdf

The EXTERNAL coverage for the antenna 2405 seems to be 790 metres. Even 10% of that for an internal siting should be good for you.

I can't right now find a compatability list that shows the antenna works with your router for sure. Netgear have a pre-sales support line on 0870 112 1206 who should be able to help.

No prob

The ANT2405 has a RRP of £44 + VAT. The 5m cable p/n ACC-1031403 RRP £47 + VAT. There is also a cheaper 3m & 1.5m cable.

[QUOTE=Legacy4x4Turbo]someone has metioned in work that there is likely to be a firmware upgrade.... for the router to allow 108mbps

The hardware for Super G 108 is completely different therefore the DG834G will always be 54.

Default bit of an update.........

Thanks for all your help guys!!

I changed the cannel last night and managed to get 94% signal strength downstairs near the patio doors....... whereas I was only getting 44% previously

I wandered onto the Microsoft updates page last night and it said there was an update for me.....

had a look and it was a netgear update.......... so downloaded it....

my buttie came around the house shortly after, so i said, come and have a look at my new shiny thing (wireless laptop)

Bloody thing wouldn't work!!

tried everything..... scanning for network etc......

it found the network, but would not connect.... even said signal 100%

anyway... I twigged and done a restore to the day before...........

ALL working FINE!!!!!

F in updates!!

who needs them LOL

cheers

Phil
