Question Catching Printer Commands

Hi guys,

Is there any way of recording the commands that are sent to a printer port? We wish to take the commands that are sent to a printer port by a particular program when printing a label and substitute in our own data to allow direct printing through our own customised program using variable data... Is this at all possible?

I hope I have made the problem clear!

Many thanks,

Damien

Unfortunately no..:/ The software doesn't allow that, which led me to wonder whether port commands could be recorded..

Does the software just print to the defualt windows printer? If so you can get hold of 'virtual' printer drivers which will appear like a normal printer to windows but any output is set to another device/output type, I use one to print documents that converts them to adobe acrobat format.

Programmatically it should be do-able, Ive done COM (serial) port scans but not LPT ports.

HTH

To Gary K:

No the software doesn't just print to the default windows printer.. The software prints labels to numerous label printers and taylors the instructions what I can gather to the individual label printer.

The label printer itself will in theory accept commands either from a COM port or an LPT port but unfortunately it fails to work when accessed via a COM port...

To molko:

It's on Windows..does that help??
