Was tidying up loads of crap on my PC and wasnt sure what the winlogin process was so killed it.
Sort time later, I shutdown the PC to reap the benefits of my handywork and shutdown reported it couldn't close a file (a DLL I think) Clicked END NOW (I think) and rebooted the pc. When it came back, logon screen was as normal but if I attempt to login to any of the account I have defined, it logs in then immediately logs out again. No error messages. Booted in safe mode and account still do the same.
Not sure if this "winlogin" thing is related but does anyone have any ideas how to get around this.
P.S. Its a packard bell box (dont laugh) therefore I have no XP CD to recover from.
Thanks in advance,
David.

Oops, Winlogon.exe is somewhat critical (as you now know).
Can be fixed by copying the file onto the PC from another PC (assumes you have a network) or a bit of tweaking from the Recovery Console (or something like ERD Commander).

But at least my system is nice and clean again and much faster than it was (obviously full of crap.) I think the one thing I must do is backup my personal file more often. Actually, any sort of backup would be a start
