Hi guys,
Downloaded various driver and game .exe files in the last few days, always get the message 'corrupt download' or similar and told to try again. These files are from trusted sites e.g. ATI home page for Radeon 9800 driver update, e.g. Far Cry demo from various sites (496Mb demo downloaded 4 times, patience wearing VERY thin!).
Concluded my system is at fault, anyone similar experience?
Win XP home, P4 2800 HT.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Also, my video files are playing upside-down! Any ideas? Bad back precludes the obvious answer!
Cheers
Steve

![Question](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/icons/icon5.gif)
Last file I downloaded I tried as just a 'save as', it was an .exe file, 496Mb, bit of a gamble, but I have a fast connection so it was an hour & a half wait. I ran the .exe file but when it tried to extract the main .cab file I got the same error message.
Very frustrating!
Anyone else had the same problems? Gotta solution?
Cheers

Are you using the built in file extracter in Windows XP or another program (winRAR, WinZip) to extract the file?
I know the last file was an exe (self extracting etc.) but what programs are you using?

Darren,
I'm using the standard XP extractor, but downloaded trial WinZip & tried on the same file with the same results.
What effect would either have when running an .exe file? Default would always we XP extractor if that helps.

The solution to this problem (took a long time to work out) in XP is to go Start>Run , type msconfig, click OK, select BOOT.ini tab, click advanced options, tick the MAXMEM box, and input your memory size (in my case 512), then reboot. In each instance where the problem has occurred - including inability to install a legitimate copy of Far Cry - this has solved the problem.
Hope this helps someone.
If anyone can explain WHY this works, I would be glad to hear it!!
Cheers
