I am setting up an ADSL connection, with a Netgear DG834 modem/router, to connect my 4 office PC's to the internet. The router uses DHCP to automatically assign IPs to each machine. I also have a network camera which has a fixed IP. Is there some way this can be connected to the router so at least one machine can see the camera and simultaneously connect to the internet ?
The only other way I've got the camera to work in the past is to manually assign fixed IPs to each machine on the network, in a similar range (ie. the camera set to 192.168.1.20, and the other PCs set to 192.168.1.xx) Now that I have a router, all IPs must be automatically assigned, but when they're auto-assigned no one can see the camera ! I think the router will be unable to automatically assign an IP to the camera. I think I have assigned the camera with an IP in the DHCP range (192.168.1.20) but am not entirely sure if this is correct. Can anyone help ?

You should be able to specifiy a range of IP addresses by DHCP. So you could use 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.50 and this "pool" will be assigned as and when.
Your network camera can now happily sit at 192.168.1.51 which will never change nor be in use by the pool.
I think you can do this on the DG814 which I have, but as my DHCP is handled by another machine I've never looked at it. My old Linksys cable router did it though.
Cheers,
Alex

Your router should be able to manage static IP assignments, you'll just need to know the MAC address of the camera, check the router manual. Your other machines can be set to DHCP off of the router.

Wot Alex says ![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
My router has a certain subnet, and I only allocate a subset pool for DHCP. Other stuff, such as the wireless bridge (or anything needing a fixed IP address) uses the range outside of the pool.
Configuring your DHCP pool should be a simple case of pointing a web browser at your router's management interface.
Cheers,
Nick.

Thanks for the replies ! I think that might just do it. I can't test it properly till the ADSL goes live though. I'll set the IP range from 192.168.1.1 to 19 so I don't have to fanny about switching the camera IP. Once again thanks for all the speedy and helpful replies !
