Question

Which update are you trying? SP2 won't install to any XP machine returning one of the frequently copied serials.

If your copy is legit, which I'm sure it is, then please ignore this!

Just had similar problem with 15 brand new Dell XP Pro Latitude laptops. The initial windows update works for loading the new "improved" update software but then continual failures to get any further.

Logged a free support call with MS and spent an hour on the phone with them to no avail. They have escalated the issue. However in the meantime downloaded all 266Mb of XP2 manually and applied it to two of the affected systems. Hey Presto windows update fully functional again.

If you can download the SP2 manually and apply it you may find it fixes the problem. If unable to get SP2 I can probably burn a copy to CDR for you (use at own risk!) alternatively wait for the release on PC Magazine front covers due at the end of this month.

Exclamation

Whatever you do please ensure you have a backup of your data that is important to you BEFORE applying SP2. This is very important.....
