Angry Another scam - beware

A couple of weeks ago, I got a notice saying that my domain name was due to expire and that it would cost £60 to renew it for 2 years. I thought this was expensive, but as I needed the name I had no choice...or so I thought
This week I get an e-mail from 1&1 who I originally had the domain name with with an invoice attached for £8.99 for the next two years, then I managed to contact them by phone and it turns out that they are aware of this scam, although they don't know how many people this letter has been sent out to - so I have lost £60 to an unknown company & the cheque has been cashed
The company name is Domain Registry Service, so if anyone gets a letter from them, please chuck it straight into the bin where it belongs
The scary thing is, I could have renewed it for 5 years for about £200

Sorry if this has already been posted - I haven't seen anything on here about it

Yeah - these boys have been around for a while - worth posting up and reminding people though.

Might be worth contacting trading stadards, as I understand they often have cases running against the domain scammers.

I used to get it from network solutions constantly. I forwarded the mails to netsol and asked them why they kept emailing me, because they had used a ghost mailer and it was the correct address, I didn't think to check the headers. And finally the twigged that there was something afoot.

Just always contact customers services when in doubt, or just as a matter of course.

Yep buggers hey, what has also happened to me in the past is if you have the .co.uk but not the .com or vice versa you will get a call saying it has just become available and same thing, you can register it for 2 years for £60, I said I'll think about it then went to 1&1 and registered it for £8.99 but Im sure they catch loads of businesses out by doing this.

Hi

had the very same letter for one of our business domains

Contacted our ISP and paid £6 for the next 3 years instead.

I did try contacting the scammers via their telephone number, but no answer
