Default XP SP2 whose getting on with it?

Mine is rather annoying, it won't accept anything in my ports.

I tried to upload images from usb2 flash card reader, it does't pop up saying there is anything connected, and it should 'auto' transfer with Nikon transfer software, but that doesn't work.

Nikon view doesnt' work properly, which I actually really need.

Outlook won't use word as email editor, and generally seems to be a bit weird.

Today I tried to install my printer and it couldn't find the printer plugged in, and it's all gone Pete Tong.

I thought about rolling back using system restore, and it seems to of removed any points before the service pack. I doubt un-installing it will work somehow.

I am up for using it, but I need to be able to use Nikon and my Epson printer..

Apart from the above my system is stable, and the firewall seems fairly good, as is the pop up blocker.

How is everyone else finding it?

the usual replys - every one says it S**t then 10 months down the line if you have a problem the answer will always be well if you havn't installed sp2 what do you expect

SUS is rolling it out to 10 + pcs at the moment and I ve seen no come back will probably have a the rest done by the end of the month

to be fair we only use xp on laptops

have you tried to re install nikon viewer

I posted here that I had a problem with Media Player crashing every time under XP, the problem started after SP2. Then I noticed the clock wasn't working, my printer wouldn't print and various other strange things were happening. The problem was easy to resolve, I formatted my system drive and installed Win2K+SP4. All problems now resolved- and the computer is way quicker.

XP SP2 is fine with me & is rolled out to all my customers.

The main issues I've found are that the IE links menu is resorted into alphabetical order. The image file associations can also get messed up. This may have been what has happened to you. I'd suggest that you uninstall all your Nikon software & reinstall again.

I'll wait for SP2a - so they can address the issues in SP2!

With that reasoning why not wait until SP2b

We ran the RC of SP2 for a few months and didn't have any major issues. It was rolled out to 75+ PC's a week ago and I've had no issues directly related to SP2.

We've had a few problems with Media Player crashing everytime it was loaded, but this happened pre-SP2. I always had to remove and re-install it to fix. In fact, when I ran SP2 install on one PC with a crashing Media Player it fixed it after the reboot.

Yeah, there will be problems with 3rd-party software (e.g. Nikon), but you can't just blame MS for that. I'm sure Nikon will either need to be re-installed or they will need to release an update. Lets see if Nikon software development are on the ball to react.

Cool

I haven't had an problems yet, but I don't do that much to ne honest except play games, do a bit of photo editing and surfing.

I believe the official list of programs from MS that will not work with SP2 is 16 pages long, and that's only official!

Have you tried re installing your usb drivers from your mother board disk. Microsoft haven't got a licience for usb drivers and therefore does not support them. Installing SP2 may have caused conflicts with the drivers ?

Mick,

Don't think so (wasn't last night when I checked). We use SUS on our internal network to deliver it via Windows Update locally.

No not yet, I am planning too, just been busy at work.

But it also had problems installing my printer, after fiddling with the firewall settings to allow printers I got it to install. But it only installed the basic drivers, none of the software for my Epson R200 printer would install because certain Kernals couldn't run and the installs all failed!

Doesn't seem to like me trying to plug in flash media either

I don't particularly have a great problem with it, the system is very stable, it's not crashing, just some programs aren't functioning properly, and it's not allowing some software to install. Previously with SP1 it was functioning for my needs, it might run better and be more secure with SP2 but at the end of the day I use my computer as a tool and I need my software and tings!

I just uninstalled it (on safe mode) after my system went into a permanent reset loop on boot up. I have norton anti-virus and zonealarm installed, I think it was norton causing the problem but I could not download the patch on safe mode (would not install the auto update).

I have now seemed to have lost all file associations but at least my system now boots.

That's not a bad idea, just wondering whether Asus have released new drivers for the board....

Cheers - will investigate that one..

For those not on broadband who want to upgrade, some magazines this month are coming with a free SP2 CD. PC Gamer (DVD ed) is one where you cant see the CD until youve bought the magazine as its hidden behind the cover DVD.

im sure I saw a load of patches for .net on my sus server

these might be for sp2

ps still think its a winner - for the first time in years you can install a MS os and use it on the net with little problem - I reinstalled xp on my latop 4/5 weeks ago (before sp2) and it lasted 3 hours on the net before it got blaster , i know I should use zone alarm etc but I was using it for work

thumbs up from me

Default XP Remote Desktop failures after SP2

I have a wierd problem with SP2, was about to post a new thread when I saw this one.

I run two PCs at home on a network, both are XP Pro. I use my work laptop on my home network too, and this is Win 2000 Pro.

I used to be able to Remote Desktop between the two XP machines, and from the laptop to either XP machine. Since upgrading both XPs to SP2, I can't remote desktop from the laptop to the XP machines, or reliably (i.e. every time) between the XP machines.

It times out saying that the remote computer has not responded, it may be too busy, or there may be a connectivity issue.

I have a hardware firewall, so have turned off the Windows XP firewall, don't run ZoneAlarm etc, so don't think there's anything in the way.

Any ideas anyone?
