Question RAM Upgrade

Upgrading my Dell Precision 420 dual p3 733mhz. 4 RAM slots fitted with 2 128 mb pc100 RAM. Can I fit a 256 mb pc100 RAM or do I have to fit another 2 128 mb's?

Thanks

Having checked with Kingston & Crucial, that model of Dell uses RAMBUS RDRAM.

RAMBUS is usually installed in pairs (IIRC), but Kingston say you can mix and match. So in theory you could drop in a pair of 256MB modules and keep the existing 128s.

You might have to hunt around for the modules, as the usual suspects for RAM upgrades (ie Kingston, Crucial and PNY) don't do RDRAM.

I've got details of a Dell spares specialist at work if you want them Kevin?

HTH,

Chris.

Thanks Chris, good thing I asked as I was on the verge of ordering SDRAM which presumably wouldn't work? Guess I'll need the spares suppliers list if you don't mind then.

Kevin (now starting to think it's quick enough with 256)

Unfortunately, SDRAM is very much different from RDRAM.

I've just remebered the company in question : http://www.eci-europe.com/ Stock varies but it's a good place to start.

Cheers Chris.

Just checked Ebay and found this on the completed items, this Samsung RAM is identical to the one I've got in front of me and bu66er it's dearer than I'd hoped. If I'd known what I was after I could've gone after this.
