Question high phone bill

I am going to have a look at a workmates PC tomorrow. He has been hit with a hefty phone bill this month. He has, by his own admission been visiting dodgy sites
will this be one of the premium rate scam things on the go atm ?
How would I look to get rid ?
adaware ? Spybot ?
Little help please.....he seems to think I know what I am on about

First unplug the modem from the wall. Check in Dial Up Networking (98/Me) or Network Connections (XP/2000) for rogue connectoids. You *may* need to start in safe mode to get rid if they are auto dailling at startup.

Yeah hit F8 a few times, just before that loading screen (when it all goes back after POST/bios checks).

Here's Adaware:

http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10...age&tag=button

Update the definitions then run.

You shouldn't need to run it in safe mode, at worst any malicious diallers will be removed on re-boot if they are already running.

Once that's done, delete the quarantine file then get Spybot:

More of the same.
