Wirelss options?
Have an adsl 4 port router for my pcs upstairs. Now I want to use a laptop downstairs. I don't really need a new adsl router, just a wireless transmitter that I can plug into the existing router and use one of its ports to send out to a wireless laptop card. Does such a device exist and if so how much are they?
I have seen a wireless adsl router for £37 (thanks Suba) but wondered if there is a cheaper alternative as I don't need the adsl conectivity bit having a router already?
So is there a simple cheap wireless solution?

You need an Access point such as http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=31034
However, a wireless router would be a neater solution and would n't be much more, I have one of these spare http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=52730

Well I have found an access point that is £15 and its usb. Now does that mean I could connect it directly to my existing router which has a usb port and it will directly broadcast lan connectivity? Then all I need is the laptop card which I have found for £17 so would be a cheap solution for me at just over £30 for the access point and card.

It was my home one, I thought it had blown so bought a new one, then discovered it was the power bar that had blown a fuse......doh!!!
Would sell, but depends on the offer, they are so cheap now it is worthwhile having a spare, can't live without BFV and Spearhead...lol

you are still better off with a all-in-one solution, adsl modem, router, 4-port, wireless. i had the same idea as you initially. got myself an AP thinking i can do wireless on the cheap. just use the freebie USB adsl modem, connect to the laptop, and then using ICS to share it on a mini-hub. then connect the AP to the mini-hub.
well, didnt quite work. abandon that idea and got myself a 4-port adsl router (no wireless), again thinking i can connect the AP into the router. after farting about with it, i decided to invest in a all-in-one as it is much neater and easier to config, etc.
so i got myself the origo/scancom wireless router from www.qtds.com. i cant believe how reliable and stable it is!!! i have so far bought about 5 for my friends and they are impress by it as well. £37+VAT was well worth spending. you can pick it up in hanger lane, west london, so save on the P&P.
p/s pm me if you are looking for some pcmcia wireless card
