Updating files between laptop and desktop

Ok, following on from my 'best laptop' question it looks like replacing the desktop we have with a similar spec laptop will be considerably more ££ than I'd thought.
Plan 'B' would be to continue with the desktop and purchase a reasonably priced laptop for working at office location no.2.
Difficulty being that when departing the office with the laptop all the files from the desktop will need to synchronised on the laptop - and vice versa on return.
We already have desktop in the office cable networked and it's also fitted with Bluetooth but it's the copying/updating of files that concerns me.
For me to do this it wouldn't be a problem - but it's my other half and she's pretty good technically but if she came up against a problem it would probably be a bit much to expect her to sort this.
Any advice?
Thanks

Store all the files in one folder on the desktop and one folder named the same on the laptop and then have a network drive mapped on each to the other machine. Then have a simple batch file on the desktop of each machine to copy all the files across each time you need to update?
Not sure there is a more simple automated way of copying the files.

Dont know ur office setup, but if using W2K; store your master files on a network drive or the desktop, in convenient location. Set up the laptop, by mapping a drive to the location. Enable laptop for using "offline files", synchronize it.
After carrying out work away from office, connect lappy to network, run a sync.
Hey presto all files the same.
