Default Starwars Battlefront - Xbox

Out today, I'm gonna get it at dinner time. Looks bloody excellent! Up to 16 players online re-creating all the battles on foot and in the machines

It's had very average reviews

Main problems seem to be poor map design, very bad ai on the bots, and vehicles which are practically impossible to destroy (someone get's in a walker and they'll be practically invincible).

Think I'm gonna give this one a miss and stick to BF1942....

"Average reviews" doesn't really tell the whole story - most reviews have said the single player isn't up to much but the multiplayer is decent. If I buy this I'll be playing exclusively on Xbox Live, I reckon.

I wouldn't be buying it for off line play. I have xbox live and it's going to get hammered this weekend

All the reviews I've seen are 8+ out of ten and 4/5 etc. They do say things against the AI and vehicles, but if I'm in a vehicle I ain't gonna complain troops can't distroy me. 6 of one, half dozen of the other I guess.

Depends on what you want I suppose. From what I've heard, if you've play BF1942 on the PC, you'll find Battlefront a little "lightweight"..

There's a good review on ign.com which discusses the various ai and map problems. For example, some of the maps are so small that when in an airborn vehicle you end up just circling a target to make sure you don't exit the play area!!!

Thumbs up

Battlefront actually supports 24 players on xbox live if you run it off a dedicated server.
I've read a few reviews that rate it higher than battlefield, the only drawbacks are the AI of the bots and the single player modes. But hey, it's a multiplayer online game.
I impressed a guy from Activision at GameStars Live by towing and bringing down an AT-AT walker on my own (black button to switch seats).

Is it system-link as well or just live?

It's system link and Live. Bought it at dinner time and just had to drag myself back to work after 1hr's fun. Can see what people are saying about the AI now but it's a wicked game, go get it!

I'll get used to it first then get myself online for a complete kicking

Question - I've played a few levels with flying ships, but they take off before I can get myself into them. Any advice?

It mentioned this in the review I posted. The problem is that the bots make a beeline straight for the vehicles as soon as the game starts. So basically, you have to be very quick and make straight for the nearest vehicle as soon as the game session starts (or disable the bots)....

Let us know what you think of it after playing it a while. I'm tempted to give it a go....

keep tapping the "enter/Exit" button as you get close to the vehicle. If someone's in it you'll throw them out (unless it's a 2 or more seater, but if it is then the black button chages seats)

My Brother's playing this - Shug Escabar is his live tag. You've got my permission to give him a good kicking

I concur, BF1942 with the desert combat mod wipes the floor with it from what I have seen of the new star wars game. Wait till next year, BF2 looks excellent.

Played the XBox demo (Endor) and it was all a bit frantic. Are some of the other levels better? Might have to trade some stuff in for it as the DVD's have rekindled my interest for all things Star Wars!
