Question PC won't turn on sometimes

Noticed this once last night, and happened 3 or 4 times this morning.

PC is shut down cleanly from last session. Hit power switch, lights come on, fans spin up for about 2 seconds and then it shuts down again. Doesn't (seem to) get as far as any post beeps. After the 3 or 4 attempts this morning, PC powered on fine

I've had no stability issues when running, no sudden shut downs, drop-outs, anything. I'm thinking it might be dust/crud or a loose connection somewhere so I'll ferret around tonight checking for that and get the old hoover on it Until then though, anyone any ideas? Ran a full virus check this morning in case that was causing it, but that came up clean as well.

CPU runs at around 42-47 deg C so don't think it's overheating.

Thanks

Steve

Poor battery connection on bios backup or battery run out ?

Loose power connection to one of your drives ?

Never thought about the bios battery

That's another one to check tonight when I get home then

I'll disconnect all power connectors and reconnect to make sure all are seated correct. Might remove the CPU heatsink and fan, clean up, re-grease and stick it back in.

Don't you just love these could be anything problems

Nope....well I could nick Kath's

I don't really want it to be my nice Enermax PSU though Mind you, it's a couple of years old now but hopefully it should last a bit longer.

...and there I was planning a nice quiet non-geeky evening

Thing is as well, with it being an intermittent problem (I think), I probably won't know if I've fixed it or not

Stop it now!!! Mines been fine so far. I'm going to tap things inside and see if moving something causes any problems. It has been on a lot recently, so maybe it's trying to tell me it's tired and wants a rest

I bet if I go home, shut it down and then press the on button, it'll come on straight away with no bother

I've got MBM running on it at home as well, and the voltages all seem fine with no massive fluctuations and all withing tolerances. I had moved some things around a while back so have probably not put something back all the way....maybe, or I've bust something
