Default Can windows 2000 be restarted each morning automatically

Can a Windows 2000 PC be restarted at say 6 oclock each morning automatically? Or do we need software to do this?

You could schedule to run the shutdown command from a remote XP workstation or just use the Scheduler in 2000 to run a local shutdown command. Don't think 2000 ships with the shutdown utility, but you can get PsShutdown from Sys Internals

As others have said, do it in Scheduled tools or via PsShutdown from Sys Internals.

If you had Windows XP you could have done it like this
Create a .bat file and then point a scheduled the task at the file.

The file needs to include the following:
Shutdown -r -f -t 5

This command will make the PC restart, close all open tasks without warning and display a warning that the PC will restart in 5 seconds.

NB Its not possible to stop this unless the user knows how to abort a system restart (shutdown -a)

Simple

Just realised that the shutdown tools is added if you install the Microsoft Windows 2000 Resource Kit.

I've got a copy at home of you like. It is however a licenced product so if you are planning to use it commerically you will need to buy a licence.

Andy, you won't find the command in Schedules. The schedule allows you to schedule any task. Since 2000 doesn't have it's own Shutdown command, you need to download a version and tell the schedule to run that external command (with any command line parameters) at whatever time you want.

So, if you download psshutdown.exe to c:\winnt\system32, then you could simply use the command "psshutdown -f -r -t 0"

-f = forces all apps to close, otherwise it may sit with a prompt asking you to close something
-r = does a reboot after the shutdown
-t 0 = immediate shutdown. you could use -t 10 for 10 second delay (or whatever)

The scheduler offers loads of options to repeat the command every day, weekdays, only at weekends, etc.. There's loads of options available.

Ahhh, psshutdown. Hours of fun! Especially the '-l' option.
