Default Home PC recommendations please

Hi

I used to build PC's and sell them. It does my head in now as i'm sick of the expected "after sales care" y'know when they uninstall things like dll files and wonder why theres a problem.

Anyway, i've lost touch with the PC building scene and now my Dad wants one for when he retires ................ perv

Will it still be cheaper for me to buy in the stuff from the wholesalers i used to use (micro direct) or is it best to buy a package from the likes of Curries, Scan etc etc.

He will only want it for mass multimedia such as camera, internet and printing........... dont think he'll be interested in Medal of Honour or Quake 3 lol

Can someone please advise me on price and spec and indeed whether i should self build or go for one of these "all in" packages. Like i said, i dont think he needs things like a 19" plasma screen, just something that will do the job

Cheers and TIA

Pete

Alternatively buy a Dell or an HP to the same spec for under £350 and you get a warranty and no need to **** about with putting it all together plus legitimate software.

No contest IMHO, unless you're building something specific (i.e. a games machine).

For general home use by someone non-techie why bother slicing your fingers open on a cheap case when you can get away with mere paper cuts from the masses of useless documentation you get with a Dell

Exactly what i was thinking Rev. Would everyone agree that a "Dell Package" direct from them would be the best idea / solution

Theres a lot to be said for a warranty even if it is a sh1tty warranty and customer support
