Sort of a Computer Related/ICE crossover thread...
Demo at http://www.alpine-usa.com/driveyouripod/
$100
Works with all iPods with a dock connector (3G, mini and 4G). This is more advanced than the BMW solution, as you can fully search your library from the HU.

The solution allows users to control iPod playback using the head unit's front panel buttons or remote; view song information (artist, album and/or song name) on the display; and easily search for songs through the receiver's Quick Search interface. The Alpine Interface Adapter for iPod is a hide-away design and can be installed anywhere in the vehicle. The KCA-420i is now available from authorized Alpine dealers for US$100.

Saw this a couple of days ago, very cool. Has anyone seen the Bose system for iPod. You could take it from the car and just pop it in the Bose dock when you get in, this could get expensive.

Very nice. Wish Mercedes would get their fingers out of their ***** and come up with a BMW style solution for my E-Class though. The FM transmitter thingie I'm forced to use at the moment is crackly and looks a mess! The Alpine product looks great but I don't want to put in another head unit.
On an IPod related-note I'd recommend the JBL Creature II speakers for a cool home IPod solution. Sound quality is fine for a small/medium sized room and the look cool. Plus they're only 60 squid from Amazon.

Compatible with a lot of OE headunits too.

The Alpine interface actually controls the HU using the dock connector so you get a true Line Out, full track information and the ability to search your library using the familiar "scrolling" interface. It only works with the 2004 AiNET units though (9831, 9833 and 9835 I think).

There's a review out http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/index....01981&eid=-108
Seems the device has a few limitations and annoyances in use, but it still seems the best solution out there at the moment. I'll probably pick one up before Christmas.
