Unhappy Backup DVD's

Using DVDshrink with Nero

Have been using Verbatim 4x discs (DVD+R) off BigPockets no probs

Buy Mirror 8x they are unreadable (4x works)

Any ideas as I am at a complete loss, the burner I have is 16x so what's up

Blimey spending loads on crap DVD's, Big Pockets Budget Disc (x50) were rubbish. Could burn them but not read or use on the DVD player (Acoustic Solutions 150, which so far has played everything). Cannot solve me problem so I now have more coasters than cups

Stick to something with a Ritek dye and you can't go far wrong.A good place to order from is www.121cdr.co.uk
I use Ritek A grades in my Pioneer A06 and never have a problem with compatibility issues in dvd players. You can get 4x disks which are purple with silver lettering or 8x which are badged as Ridisc...
You didn't mention whether you have a dual format dvd writer either? (I use minus R's on mine)
Good luck

Nick

If it's a 16x burner you have, it will support both +/- disks.

There is no benefit to using +r disks unless you have no choice, they are only 70% compatible in stand-alone DVD players. -r are 95% compatible, more-so if you use a G04 Ritek disk.

The 8x Mirror disks you will be using may be fake Taiyo Yuden disks. They use an Infosmart dye with a TY stamper on them.
Taiyo Yuden (like Verbatim), produce excellent disks but at a premium.
If you don't grudge the extra few pence per disk, stick with Verbs and you won't go far wrong.

If however, you'd like a recommendation:

If you will be burning at 4x, use a Ritek 4x DVD-R (G04)
If you want to burn at 8x, go for the Datawrite grey 'Fuji' DVD-R
If you want to burn at 12x, the ANV Ritek 8x DVD-R are a good choice.

Official 16x media will be available by the end of next week if you're not desperate for disks. G06 Ritek disks should be available before the end of October.
