Default XBOX Problem

I got my xbox the very day they come out, so its kinda getting on a little, but now its not reading any disks, sais makesure disk is clean etc when its trying to read them. So i presume its the DVD drive thats faulty.

Its not chiped or anything like that, just standard. What are my options? Can i replace the dvd drive without chipping it? Do i need to chip it to change drive? Or can Microsoft fix it for me and at what cost? Or Should i just buy another xbox!

Thanks for the advice!

sounds like the old DVD drive is gone, common fault on the thomson drives

you can get replacements I believe, which are much better, just a straight swap AFAIK

any more than about 30 quid, and you may as well buy a new Xbox, only 99quid with a couple of games too

£29.90 for a replacement drive from here - http://www.consoleplus.co.uk/index.php?cPath=34_136

Not sure if they're any cheaper elsewhere but I noticed this at the weekend whilst looking for Xbox and GBA stuff

Good luck

check with microshaft first .... I think they were fixing v1.0's even if they were outside the warrantey period. cause they knw the drive was crap.

PS. I'm still using my day one release machine and no problems yet

Cheers for replys.

I phoned up Microsoft xbox support, from them it would cost me £80 for them to fix the console. I would rather buy the crystal with 3 new games etc.. How silly is that!
