Default Video encoding

Anyone here know anything about encoding dv video, i.e what codec to use for best compression size etc, tried divx 5xx but my pinnacle software doesnt like it very much.

get yourself a copy of Main Concept MPEG Encoder. does just about everything.

I would generally encode to DivX, XviD or similar, though I would not store the video in these formats while editing it.

Grab yourself a copy of VirtualDub for the final encode and have a good read of the guides on Doom9 for instructions on how to use it.
