Angry Gigabyte Motherboard and POST - HELP !!

Hi,

I've currently got a GA 7N400 Pro 2 Gigabyte motherboard with a Geforce FX5600 XT graphics card. My mate helped me install a new fan(not the problem) and we entered the BIOS to check all the settings.

Now - the PC doesn't start

Tried to clear the CMOS but there's no jumpers to do this. The Gigabyte manual tells us we have to remove the battery for ten mins and unplugf the motherboard from the PSU - did this but no luck

Now however, we get 2 audio alerts - 1 long and 2 short beeps - according to the manual this means display adaptor problem (currently using DVI cable). There is no display so not sure what is exactly happening.

Unplugged RAM, graphics card etc but nothing working. Would it be worth trying the monitor using the standard analog input cable ?

Any suggestions welcome !!!

Thanks,

Thanks,

sounds like the graphics card is either broken or not compatible.

Try the machine with just one stick of RAM

its not an old card its from the existing system ! i replaced the heatsink and fan , and it booted up no problem, then changed settings in the bios and njow it wont boot up !

have 1 gig of ram (two 512 sticks) so i ll try taking one of them out.

Thing is i only changed bios settings, i didnt touch any of the components !

anything else i can try ?

Try another gfx card anyway. If it doesn't work then the motherboard has a problem or else your BIOS clear didn't work. If it does work, refit the current card. If it works, fine, if it doesn't then try it in another machine. Or try this last stage first.

One long and two short is video.

Unseat the card and reseat. Try it without screwing in at the back as this can sometimes slightly unseat the card.

Failing that, take the CMOS battery out, unplug from mains, go and watch a film and come back to it after
