Don`t know if this has been asked before, was wondering if anyone out there is using a PDA for satnav/ camera detection needs. And was wondering what software everyone was using. I was thinking of tomtom 3, with speed minder for the camera side. Any feed back would be useful. Thanks

I've been using Tomtom 2 for a while on a Dell Axim. Wired receiver left on the dash. Has it's quirky moments but I've been pretty happy with it. Used it in Wales, around the south coast, Midlands with no problems, got me to where I wanted to go every time.
Biggest problem I had was with the mount, I'd recommend a vent mount rather than the sucker cup type.

I use TT3 on an HP2210. Very impressed. Also use CheckPoint as my "safety" camera software.
TT3 also supports postcode searches. I've been impressed with its ability to "get me home" when I've been out on the motorbike and just having a blast down unknown back roads.
Lots of useful info on
http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/index.php
Including the latest POI databases for the cameras etc.

Hi porlkertus
The UK Postcodes is a fantastic little program. TomTom 2/3 only has a postcode search up to five characters eg SN25 1TT would only be SN25 1 or W1 5HG would be W1 5. This puts you in the area but can be some way out. The UK Postcode one supports the full 7 digits and is very accurate.
I work in car car hire business and we have to deliver to some odd addresses. great if you live in a town not so out in the sticks.

A few questions if i may:
Can you turn the screen down so that it doesnt blind you at night?
Can you add laser detection onto these at all?
Whats the main difference between the GPS receivers?
Thanks guys

I think you will need separate kit for laser detection!
If your talking about PDA based navigation, then theres 3 types of reciever really, wired, wireless and plug in (CF slot). You pay a slight premium for a wireless (bluetooth) reciever, but the lack of wires on your dash makes a big difference when connecting it/taking it apart. the CF ones are handy if you do a lot of walking or have a bike. Theres loads of makes, ideally one with a sirfII chipset as these are newer/faster/lower power.
A wealth of info here - http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/menu_gpshardware.php
Tomtom Go is well worth a look if you dont need a PDA but want sat nav with a speedcamera database. Here - http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/tomtom-go.php
Good luck!

Another thanks to Robocop for the UK postcodes link. Nice to be able to use it with Tomtom, but also good to be able to input a postcode and see a map of the area.
