Default xp and updates

I have a slight problem with th new PC.

It's running XP and this seems to be the worst piece of software I've ever used, no tell a lie ZoneAlarm is the worst. Anyway After finally getting access to mail and the web I've noticed an icon in the task bar, which, looks like the XP flag over the Earth. Great. Clicking on it has no effect, hover over it and it says Downloading updates xx%.

I'm using dial up and this is slowing everything down.

XP is set not to download updates but notify me. So any idea's what is being downloaded?????

Cheers,

Matt

Zone Alarm version 5 caused major problems, I'm sure they have a forum group you can see exactly what the problems are. I went back to version 4.??? and it worked like it was supposed to.

Isn't AVG Anti-Virus and Zonealarm a firewall ?

Sygate do a free for personal use firewall as an alternative to Zonealarm, if that helps.

Cheers
