Default router - throughput

I notice while looking around for a broadband router that a lot of reviewers are citing "poor throughput" issues for some of them.

How much variation is there in these products ? Anyone prepared to offer a recommendation ? (need a box to share a cable broadband install)

I have this one, great performance as standard and you can run third party firmware on it. http://www.linksysinfo.org/index.php

Jack, I've got a WAG54G - nice product, but need a broadband router that'll work with a cable modem. I've been recommend the WRT54G which has a WAN port.

Was just wondering if there's much difference in throughput in each brand on the market.

Sorry yes. The WRT is the one I have and that's exactly what I use mine for. I have a NTL cable modem and wired and wireless machines.

Had nothing but problems with my Linksys router so replaced it with a Netgear which has been 100% reliable.
