Question Outlook Express 6 Question

I recently uploaded to OE Version 6.

Today I received a message and attachment from usually reliable source (local council music dept). OE had denied access to attachment with message "OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your mail: 3declow.pdf"

Assuming the attachment wasn't bugged or whatever can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks, David

Can't check right now, but I think you need to go to Tools | Options | Security.

Thanks JC,

Have had a look and I am on medium security. I get lost if I get into Custom Settings though - I don't even understand the questions, sad, I know. Anyone give a hint on what OE may be trying to block or what I might chaange on Custom Settings? David

MS OE is set to not allow attachemants by default see below for 2 ways of dealing wutgh this depending on what version you are using I think ???

There are two ways to allow high risk attachments:

You can choose to enable delivery of only certain types of high risk attachments.
Click Start
Click Settings
Click Control Panel
Double-click Folder Options
Click the File Types Tab
Under the Extensions column, locate the extension of the attachment type that you would like to receive and highlight it.
If the extension you would like to receive is not in this list, then you cannot disable receipt of only that attachment type. Instead, you will need to disable the unsafe attachment protection feature entirely as described in the second option below.
Click Advanced
Uncheck Confirm Open After Download
Click OK

You can choose to disable the unsafe attachment protection entirely in which case all types of high risk attachments will be delivered to you.

Start Outlook Express
Select Options off the Tools menu
Click the Security tab
Under Virus Protection, uncheck the box labeled "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus".
Click OK

Cheers Nick

Thanks Nick, I've had a look at that and I have a bloody great list of extensions! The pdf extension, which is the one OE blocked, says it is an Adobe Acrobat Document. In fact the attachment was a picture (a poster for a music event) so I don't know why I couldn't access. I think I will leave all alone just in case. Thanks again. David

LOL @ JC

Hi David
A picture can be saved as a Portable Document Format (PDF) makes it so you can't edit it unless you have Adobe

The only problem will be that any more attachments sent to you, you will be in the same situation

Nick
