Thats why I'm trying the demo first -
I've only got a Pentium 4 1.8ghz & a 64mb GeForce 4 graphics card - I'm a bit limited by what I can use to upgrade a laptop - don't know whether jumping up to 1gb of RAM from 512mb would make any difference...

As for the space issue, what a PITA that is... Hope you work it out.

Another decent graphics card (about £50 cheaper than the 6600 GT Alex mentioned) is the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro. I picked up the 128Mb version for £99 from Aria. Running on my P4 2.4Ghz (512Mb Ram, 120Gb HD) it's fine. My PC is in no way modded for games, but this card runs well.

The 6600GT is the current best performer it would seem in the circa 150 quid realm thou - check out reviews on anandtech.com

Quite chuffed, my old Athlon 1700 with a Geforce 3 ti200 is handling it quite nicely, playable and looks superb even at 1024*768 and the next one up, even with high detail, I think bumping up the aliasing might finish it off though.

just playing the demo a bit now and its not bad.
that gun you get whereby you can pick up items and throw them at enemies, like those big round saw-tooth edged discs is fun.
runs good on my 6600gt.
how do you get a fps reading in the demo ?

If you can get to the console, the "`" key directly below escape, you type in net_graph 3 I think and that should do it, if not play around with net_graph 1 etc 0 removes it again. You may have to activate the console which is done in the options-keyboard-advanced setting bit.
Dunno if the demo will allow you to do this but that's how it's done in CS:Source
