I want to upgrade the memory in my iMac from the 256meg it was supplied with. As I understand it, there is one DIMM socket which I cannot change without a visit to an Apple Service Centre and one empty SODIMM socket and I think I need PC2700 SODIMM (for G4 1.25 GHz Power PC, 20" with superdrive)

What is the largest amount I can increase this by/to without the visit to an Apple SC? Where to buy?

Crucial says 1GB total and their page lists sodimms for sale upto 512MB.

I have not any experience with that Mac, but I assume adding a sodimm will increase the total memory and not disable the onboard dimm?

G4 iMac. 1x DIMM (non-user servicable), 1x SODIMM (under flap on base). Both slots can be occupied with different capacities/speeds of module.

Full spec at EveryMac

Get the Crucial module from H's post. The 1Gb part from this page would work but it's over £200 which you'd be better putting towards a G5 iMac

Oh and it's Mac (as in Macintosh) not MAC (Media Access Control), you know how it makes us fruit lovers cry

Oh and I realised my blunder too late to correct the thread title (honest)

Fitted my new 512 meg Crucial module today. What a difference

Can anyone tell me how much Apple Service Centres / Resellers charge to swap the internal 256 for 512?

Good, good! Mac OS X certainly does love as much RAM as it can get its grubby hands on.

Re: internal slot... Cost probably = Arm + Leg... PM AllanB, I'm sure he won't mind. He works for MacWarehouse who are a Service Centre as well as a Reseller.

Or visit http://apple.via.infonow.net/locator....jsp?LOC=en_GB and search for a service centre in your area.

Will do, thanks (or would do if Allans PM box wasn't overflowing)
