![Question](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/icons/icon5.gif)
Does regular DVD5 (ie: single layer) software like Nero etc support DVD9 (dual layer)?
I have seen some silly priced phillips drives in PC world today (£79) that did 16x dual layer burning..
but the media (discs) on sale in there were £6 a disc!!! thats a pack of 5 discs!!! (verbatim Brand)
Anyone know of anywhere sensible to buy DVD9's?

The LG GSA-4163B is the drive to have....
Does ALL formats (-R/RW, +R/RW and RAM) - including dual-layer, 16x write on DVD-R and +R, and 40x write on CD-R. Also supports bitsetting on +R.
Cracking piece of kit - especially for LG (a brand I normally avoid like the plague).

edit to add: can domestic DVD players that support say DVD-R/+R and RW playback Dual layer 'blanks' ??
Ie: for backing up my DVD collection?
('original' movies use DL DVD9 IIRC..)

single-sided dual-layer DVD disc. DVD-9 can hold approximately 7.95 gigabytes of data,
(it's the way the japanese round up their megabytes
)

was more a question of if players would play the dual layer non retail disks..
thanks for the media links.

Some of the poorer quality DVD+DL media will have a noticeable skip as it switches layers during playback but 90% of them are manufactured to a high enough quality that they'll play to the end.
If you're not desperate to start DL burning, hold on til mid-January when DVD-DL media is scheduled to hit the UK shores. It should be more compatible than it's +DL counterparts.

PS lol@ PC World silly prices
