![Question](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/icons/icon5.gif)
Tried to burn some CDs with Roxio, after the third coaster I gave up. It thinks for ages and ages and ages, and finally spits out "error".
Now I have to mix something for tomorrow evening (or the PC goes up to the living room!!!)
From the above description, can anyone tell me whether I should
a) re-install Roxio and try it again (not sure where I got it from, must have a disk somewhere)
b) try Nero instead (v.5.x downloaded from oldversion.com but needs key which I don't have!
)
c) take the PC back to the shop as the drive is buggered?
Cheers
Brendan

What's the error?
Buffer underun?
Also I would suggest using "simulate write" before you end up with a nice pile coasters. Once its working on simulation mode, then you can move further afield.
Try slower write speeds, try 2x or 4x first and gradually build up. It could be you have too many processor intensive programs running in the background slowing down your system (norton, firewalls etc). So maybe worth diconnecting the internet, and shutting down as many applications and disabling AV and firewalls.

2GB processor, running almost nothing else, RAM in proportion (I think 256 MB), set on about 16x when there is a possibility of 32x or even 40x. Shouldn't be a problem, I'd have thought?
Will have a go after lunch.

Right.
Used a Philips CD-R80, rated 48x.
Tried to copy 61 mins of music at 32x. XP Home, no major apps open.
Stage "Prepare audio data" took over 10 mins of up, down, up, down revving and sparking noises. First "Progress" bar filled very quickly, then Disk Progress - Recording Phase bar didn't move.
Eventually (10 mins later) it starts recording, then after 5 seconds spits out the disk with the following two errors:
CD error - power calibration area error - [03/73/03]
Track writer error - command retry failed [T7118]
The Help explanation of the first one says try a new disc, or failing that, see your manufacturer. As I've tried a new disc (3 times), does this mean we can conclude the laser's gone?
Thanks (to anyone still reading!)
