Default Can I Revert Back To Old DirectX?, Windows ME

Little brother is havin troubles with his laptop - says that he thinks the trouble may have happened since updating DirectX (to 9c I think)

Can anyone tell me if/how I can take it back to it older setting to see if that is the problem.

Cheers.

Currently trying 'System Restore' yet don't think it will effect DirectX.

In theory no, you can't remove it. But you might want to do a google for Direct X removers though. However, I doubt that DX is the cause of any problems - gone are bad old days of DX 5... Has he run DX Diag? If so, what does it say?

I've just ran DXDiag - although couldn't search for it as, 'search - for files and folders' doesn't run, nor 'Internet Explorer'.

All the video/sound tests ran fine.

Any recomended remover? Could I install an older version over 9c? What would be best on ME?

Throwing it away - it's the worst OS M$ ever made, and that's saying something.

No, you can't install an older version over 9c as the files won't over-write any that are newer. However, I beleive there is a hack for changing the version date in the registry which fools DX into thinking it is older than it actually is.

But more to the point, what problems is he seeing?
