![Question](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/icons/icon5.gif)
I was just wondering if I'm using the oldest PC for browsing the Internet?
The case and floppy drive date back to 1995.
The motherboard and CPU (200MHz AMD K6) are from 1997.
I'm still running Windows 95.
But I do have 256MB of RAM!
The funny thing is that I work in IT so people would expect me to have the latest equipment. But the need to upgrade my PC hasn't been that great since I stopped playing the latest games. The only reason I have to upgrade at the moment is that I want to get a digital camera and my PC doesn't support USB ports.
So is your PC more clunky than mine?

Hard to say, really. My main PC is like Abraham's Axe (or Trigger's Brush in Only Fools and Horses). My keyboard, mouse and IDE cables are probably all that remain of the original and they're about 6 years old, everything else gets upgraded once in a while. Currently AMD Athlon 1800XP+ with 1Gb of DDR and an 80Gb HDD, so probably due a better CPU soon. I'll retire these components into my Linux server which is running my old P3 set-up which in turn will get donated to one of my other projects to replace the godawful Celeron's in got for nothing

Mines 2001 I think, and I see no real need to upgrade anytime soon as I dont really play as many of the latest games as I used to, and its plenty fast enough for everything else.
AMD 1400+, 1/2gig RAM, Geforce2, 80GB.

J4CKO - Why do you feel the need to replace your PC every 2-3 years? OK, you make a little money but PCs must depreciate faster than an Alfa 166. Is there a specific thing that you want to do with your PC that the current one is too slow for? But you do have a point, I really do need an upgrade now. ![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Like NotoriousRev, my PC is like the old broom that's had it's head and handle replaced several times. The keyboard, mouse, monitor, DVD drive and hard drive are all of different vintages.

Oldest part of my main rig is three years old: a Logitech Wheelman mouse. My first build was in April 2000, and since then at a rough estimate, the rest has been upgraded so often I'm on:
Third case (and sixth PSU)
Eleventh motherboard
Nineth CPU (might be tenth)
Sixth lot of RAM
Fifth gfx
Third sound card
Third NIC
Fifth HDD
Third FDD
Fourth and fifth CD/DVD drives
Seventh monitor
Third keyboard
Third mouse (see above)
And about twelfth OS install....

1996 or 97 IBM M Series.
Started as a 300Mhz single processor, now dual.
Original 4Gb drive and an 80Gb for data.
256MB RAM
GeForce 2 graphics card - cost about a tenner.
Firewire card.
Soundblaster live card - about a tenner as well.
Sony CD Burner.
New power supply because the old one was noisy.
Runs Windows XP day and night, great for video editing, holds my entire CD and picture collection and way powerful enough for browsing the web and email.
Probably going to buy one of those Mac home thingies to replace it.

"J4CKO - Why do you feel the need to replace your PC every 2-3 years"
I sell it on whilst its still reasonably current, so perhaps I get 250 quid for the old one rather than skipping it, I then use the 250 quid for components to build the next one, thing is if I leave it longer it either conks out or is so old its worthless, bit like cars.
Things are changing as pc's are having a longer useful life as things arent changing as fast as they once were, 500 mhz to a gig was worth it but 3.0 ghz to 3.5 ghz, whats the point, will probably give it the kids so they can leave my new one alone !
My pc has been on for the last 2.5 years, hammered day and night and just keeps going, looking pretty scabby now, needs a new case as thats even older and has been hacked about, bits of plastic have fallen off, I have lost the sides (its on a shelf behind a panel so it doesnt matter) and the rest of it has gone a funny colour.
