Default damn viruses

i had a nightmare night bought the current issue of computer shopper,
it has reviews about virus killers
and a free copy of AVG, (started at 10pm)
scanned the pc, and has over 6000 viruses/spyware etc

i got bored stopped the scan and thought clean the viruses or put in vault, (1 1/2 hours)
it requires the pc to be restarted for it to work,....OK

the pc won't run windows afterwards. tried safe mode,
it won't get in that too.
tried recovery disk, it won't work too

virus 1, me 0

searched high and low in my jungle of a room for something found another XP disk
this disk offered me the chance of repair current xp,

cool, but it needs a password, and i don't have one
so option 2, REINSTALL windows.
it deleted the current windows and reinstalled this one.

HA take that you B@stard
virus 1 me 1

got windows back BUT its a clean slate, all my files are gone

virus 2 me 1

click click click found the old files hiden in some folders ??
virus 2 me 2
now need to find all my old installation disks for everything else.

it is now 2.28am (DAMN virus)

biggest problem

that IEXPLORER in the new xp has lost all my bookmarks does anyone know how to retrieve them?

Big screen and icon problems means..

a) Change screen size properties to large screen resolution (1024x768)?

or

b) Needs Graphics card drivers

lol!

And the moral to this story is......

1. Backup regularly.
2. Get a virus checker, keep the definitions up to date and run it regularly (daily)
3. Get an adware checker, keep the defintions up to date and run it regularly
4. Get spyware software, keep the defenitions up to date and run it regularly
5. Don't be tempted by the "adult art" sites or the offer of anything free that looks like it was spelt by a backward child (warez, serialz etc).
6. If you are using a dial up connection - tell BT to ban premium rate numbers
7. Backup regularly - There is no excuse nowadays as blank cd-rs are about 1p each and even my fridge comes with a cd burner (Joking but you get my point).

Sounds like you've already lost your important documents so what I would do is back up/export all your mail/internet settings. Download the latest drivers for your gfx/sound/mobo card/wireless keyboard + mouse/monitor and then burn them to disc.

Take a deep breath and format your hard drive and reinstall windows. http://www.helpdesk.umd.edu/topics/t...ows_2000/4349/

You will be amazed at how quickly your machine will run with a fresh install, like new.

Once you have got your broadband/dial up working you cannot get a firewall installed quick enough.

I shall send you that program from my home address tonight.

To be honest I am confused as to what your actual problem is at the moment.
What have you done and what is no longer working?
