Hi all
I have a Dell Axim X50v Pocket PC and Audiovox RTM-8000 wireless voice/data card, which is basically a mobile phone in Compact Flash format. It comes with software to make the PDA work as a phone, and that all works fine.
Its primary function, however, is as a data modem, and I'm struggling to get it connected. Under 'connections' I have:
Connection name: GPRS Mobile
Modem: GPRS_Modem
GPRS mobile number: *99#
No dialing rules
User name: web
Password: web
Domain: (blank)
Under 'advanced'
Baud rate: 115200
Wait for dial tone: off
Wait for credit card: 0
Extra dial-string modem commands: +cgdcont=1,"ip","internet"
Cancel if not connected within 120 seconds
Connection preferences: 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, hardware flow control.
Terminal is switched off
IP is set to use server-assigned IP address. SLIP, software compression and IP header compression are all off.
When I dial, lights flash on the GPRS card for a few seconds but then I get an error: "Dialed: *99# The answering modem has disconnected. To check your connection settings..." blah blah...
Any idea what's wrong? I seem to get this crap every time I try to get a mobile device doing internet access. I know my SIM is fully data-enabled.

Never mind... stupid assumption on my part that the GPRS settings configuration window I was using was actually the right one - and that the software supplied with the Pocket PC was actually compatible with that same Pocket PC.
How do the technophobes cope?!
