Post Broadband connection speeds help please

I have just been reviewing my ISP charges, and i,m being charged 24.99 a month.

i did some checking and i find that thats for a 1mb connection

yet i was told i can only get a 512k connection due to the distance from the exchange..

how do i tell what connection speed i have..

according to the modem ul/dl box it says

line rate 288 Kbps 576Kbps

data rate varies

if i look at the little modem box on the task bar i have the follwing

sent @589824bps

do i have a 1 meg connection or a 512K

any help would be appreciated.. (might save some money)

You need to be nearer than 5 kilometres (about 3 miles) to the Exchange

To Test your line try here
