Hi,

Is there any freeware to grab a frame from a WMV file and convet it to a jpg?

I have one that does a good job of avi files, but it needs to be a WMV one.

Can't you just use Alt|Printscreen and paste into an image editor. Other than that you can use Windows Movie Maker - supplied with XP - that will do the job.

 

print screen does not work....just leave a "window" where the image should be.

how do you do it in movie maker? I have the program but dont know how to do it.

In the preview window there's a button for taking a picture, looks like a camera.

 

Programs like WMP use graphics hardware accelleration to playback the image which can affect your ability to take a screen grab, the same will occur when trying to screen grab from a DVD frame.

The alternatives are to use something like PowerDVD which will allow you to screen grab from a DVD or media file like your WMV or to select Control Panel>Display>Properties>Settings>Advanced>Trouble shooting in Windows 2000 or XP and slide the Hardware Acceleration slider to None.
